We are the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6- to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities. The village of Four Marks in Hampshire has doubled in size over the last few years, without equivalent increase in infrastructure, and has very limited public buildings, particularly for young people. The 50 year old Scout Hut is crumbling, and far too small; built for 20-30, we now have 160 Scouts, with a waiting list due to lack of space. The equally old Village Hall cannot now handle demand, with many turned away for lack of capacity. We intend to build a much larger modern community building, to provide facilities for a wide range of village activities and events, and to house the Scouts and their equipment. We have full support from the Parish Council, other village groups and many individual villagers. The Parish Council is providing the site, at the edge of the village recreation ground, in place of the old Scout Hut. We have detailed plans, which are tailored to meet the needs of the various users, and we have full planning permission from the local authority. The building is designed to Passivhaus principles with full insulation, thermal sealing, and a heat exchanger to give low energy heating and ventilation system. Part of the roofing is 'green roof' with Sedums etc, and there is provision for photovoltaic panels on the south-facing roof section. It will provide a modern, comfortable environment for all kinds of activities, yet minimise running costs. We have already raised over £98,000, mainly by our own efforts, with some donations from supportive villagers, and we continue vigorous fund-raising efforts ourselves. We are also further supported financially by the Parish Council, who can add another £70,000 to the project. Scouting helps our young improve their key skills, including social skills, teamwork ability, leadership ability and confidence. Our volunteers also enjoy the benefits of Scouting by learning new skills, making new friends and enjoying a social life with a purpose. We are a mainly voluntary organisation, offering a Rescue and Rehoming service for pure bred bulldogs across the UK, who, for whatever reason cannot stay where they are. We are not a dog’s home or a shelter and aim to always do our best for every bulldog we are asked to help. We will subsequently stand by him for the rest of his life, offering support, education and advice to his new owners whenever it is required. Only a few bulldogs end up in rescue because they have been abused, mis-treated or abandoned, the majority of bulldogs looking for a second chance are simply victims of circumstance – ie: divorce, new baby or a change in the family situation. All the owner wants is a good pet home and by using our rehoming service they are going some way to ensure the new home is the right home first time. Homes are selected on a system of area and suitability from our extensive waiting list of people across the country, in most cases we are able to work within the dog’s own area and find a home that matches his criteria. Adoption fees, fund raising and donations are our only means of funding – every bulldog that simply needs a good home will help us to pay for those that require veterinary treatment, transportation or fostering. Our adoption fees are nominal – regardless of how much we had to spend on the dog before we could re-home it. Everything is coordinated from one central point and thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers across the UK we can act quickly if necessary, home check potential new homes and supply short stay foster care where required. Our Aim: To promote responsible dog ownership amongst those that own a pure bred bulldog To ensure that all those who can no longer keep their bulldog, for whatever reason, have the option of safely placing their dog in a vetted pet home. To ensure a place of safety is available to all bulldogs who’s owners can no longer cope or look after their dog properly To be available to offer unbiased breed advice to all those that own a pure bred bulldog To educate bulldog owners in the hope that bulldogs in the future can be free from cruelty, abuse and neglect There has been an official bulldog rescue since October 1978, but references to a rehoming service can be traced much further back to the late 1960s. The present bulldog rescue has been in its current form since April 2001 and registered as a charity since 2006, it rehomes approximately 120 bulldogs every year but also offers other services such as free advice, memorials and operates the lost and stolen list. Our vet bill can be anything around the £20,000 to £30,000 pound mark every year.
