Radio Lollipop Newcastle

Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

Radio Lollipop Newcastle is a team of volunteers that visit short-stay and long-term hospitalised children and young patients with the aim of providing them with care, comfort, play and entertainment. We host a fun 'Radio Lollipop' radio show with different themes every week, allowing the children to request songs, enter competitions, win prizes and even attend our broadcast radio studio and speak live on air! We visit as many wards as we can and entertain children by playing games, making crafts and playing musical instruments. This year we hope to fundraise towards building up a supply of sensory toys, games and crafts suitable for patients with more complicated needs. As a purely voluntary organisation every penny counts no matter how large or small and every volunteer appreciates that, as do our patients and their families. Fundraising will also contribute to the maintenance of our broadcasting radio studio used for our live shows. It will also contribute to the purchasing of new games, toys, musical instruments and craft supplies so that we are able to offer the children a wide variety of entertainment and the latest games, as well as give them prizes when they enter competitions and are guests on the radio show. In particular, we would like to purchase sensory toys that children with special needs, such as autism and Down's Syndrome, will be able to use.
