7th Feltham Sea Scouts are a thriving group working with young people from Feltham and the surrounding areas. We exist to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. With an emphasis on being on the water, we offer fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure that helps children and young adults reach their full potential. We are currently fundraising towards repairing and restoring our traditional rowing boat so that we can get it back on the water and being used by our young people in time for our group's 80th anniversary and the boat's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2017. Traditional rowing offers the opportunity for young people to spend time outdoors and on the water, learn nautical skills and take part in physical activity. It is also chance to learn to work together as the crew of the boat, allowing young people to build strong communication, teamwork and leadership skills. Our Scout section has been working hard to fundraising some of the money needed to restore our beautiful boat to it's former glory by making and selling woggles at Scouting events. We hope that you will consider helping us to reach our target so that we can get our boat back on the water in 2017!

Beards are taking on bowel cancer Grow a beard for the month of December and help us beat bowel cancer. Someone dies from bowel cancer every half an hour, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Knowing the symptoms and acting on them saves lives. Use your bristles to raise vital awareness and funds so we can support everyone affected by bowel cancer. Dom Hodge and his wife Emily married in 2010. Very soon after the wedding they received the devastating news that Emily had bowel cancer. Dom says “you don’t find as many young people in the waiting room with cancer. Emily was 30. She should have been getting on with her life as a young newly married woman. That was really hard to deal with.” Following extensive surgery and chemotherapy, Emily made a full recovery. However, during her treatment, Dom’s father was also diagnosed with the disease and sadly passed away in 2011. Emily was involved with Beating Bowel Cancer following her diagnosis and stayed in touch which is how Dom heard about Decembeard and wanted to help out. Dom is encouraging men to take part in Decembeard this year and says, “If you’ve got a beard go for it, or if you haven’t go for it. It’s all for a good cause, it’s a great way to let people know about bowel cancer, it’s a type of cancer that doesn’t get as much awareness”. Ben Newell, 32, lost his mum to bowel cancer when she was 64. He moved back in with his dad following her loss to help support him through his grief and he took him travelling. Ben’s sisters struggled to come to terms with their loss but Ben said that in a way, the experience had a positive impact on him as he started to live life to the full and take more chances and opportunities. Ben started volunteering for the Beating Bowel Cancer events team in 2015 and heard about the Decembeard campaign from the team. Ben says that he’d do anything to help the charity, and wants to encourage men to take part this December, including his brother and dad. Ben says,“You can help by getting work mates together, get your pals together, you can have fun and raise money together. Not asking you to run a marathon just grow a beard!”
