The Food Chain
London, UK
We provide access to food and nutrition support services to people living with HIV in London, at times in their lives when they need it most. 95% of the people we help are in dire nutritional crisis as they have to choose between eating a meal and paying the bills. They are unable to manage their HIV simply because they cannot afford the food and the nutrients they need to fight their condition. Over half of the 95% stated also struggle with other health issues such as heart disease, diabetes or mental illness, in addition to their HIV. The Food Chain offers much more than just a food bank service. We work with people living with HIV to respond to their immediate nutritional needs and to help them self-manage their HIV in the long-term. Inspired by our practical response, hundreds of volunteers deliver our services, supported by a staff team of eight. • £8 will offer a hot and nourishing meal twice a week to one person living with HIV and complex health needs. • £20 will cover the costs of the ingredients needed for one service user to attend our series of all 5 nutrition and cookery classes. • £45 will provide enough food for a week to someone who has been discharged from hospital and who feels too unwell to shop - That’s a minimum of 21 healthy meals, drinks and snacks. • £100 will ensure that we are one phone call away to offer nutritional advice to someone living with HIV and support them to improve their diet and their health.
