Waverley Care is Scotland’s leading HIV and hepatitis C charity. Everything we do is guided by the experiences of the people we work with, from shaping the services we deliver to influencing national policy around sexual health and blood borne viruses.

At Simba, we support families in Scotland who have lost their baby. We help those grieving create precious moments to honour their baby’s memory. Where there is darkness, we shine gentle light by making time, giving space and sharing love. The approach we take is deeply personal, our team and volunteers coming together because every baby matters. Every single one. With only a tiny percentage of Government funding, we rely on the generosity of our incredible supporters throughout the year. At Simba, we help in three main ways; gifting our hand-crafted Memory Boxes, our beautiful Trees of Tranquillity and our precious Bereavement Rooms. The Open Door provides a range of Day Services - Registered with the Care Inspectorate - meeting the often complex needs of Older People. Our Day Services - we call them “Clubs” to foster a sense of ownership - operate 3 full days a week allowing “care, love and laughter” to play a powerful role in isolated lives. We run three “Clubs” per week - on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On a Tuesday our “Good Neighbour Club” caters for Elderly People aged around 65 plus - still mentally and physically active and able to make their own way here. Thursday Club is for frail elderly, usually living independently, but with some degree of memory loss. The Saturday Break is a respite service for carers of those suffering from Alzheimer’s/Dementia - family members can drop their loved ones off in the morning then return to collect them in the late afternoon - thereby enjoying a few valuable hours of respite from their caring role. Referrals to groups are normally via a Doctor or recognised Health Professional - but family members and carers can initiate the process. Registered with the Care Inspectorate, all our Day Services for Older People are run to extremely high quality standards - subject to external inspection - at any time. We provide a hot, traditional 2 course lunch to all - mindful that for some this may be their only proper meal of the day. The Open Door services are available to everyone regardless of race, gender, disability, religion or lack of religion, sexual orientation, class or any other factor. In the rare/unlikely situation where we were unable to provide we work to broker people on to other community opportunities. A busy, well-used “Community Hub” we also enable inter - generational and international co-operation - having over 70 active volunteers - representing 10 different countries, our youngest 14, our oldest 87. As a community resource we also make our facilities available to a wide range of groups from the local Community Council to the Quakers - crucially, we are well-positioned to see genuine, emerging, need and to facilitate these being met within the local community.
