Langar Aid

Coventry, UK

As part of Langar Aid’s commitment to local community activism, volunteers in the UK have been supporting local community organisations which provide free hot meals to the most vulnerable in the community. We have a team of volunteers who give up their time and cook hot nutritious food for homeless people across the UK. These meals are distributed via hostels and churches. Langar Aid fights hunger in the UK and worldwide. We provide vital food and water in emergencies where it is needed the most to save the lives of victims of natural disasters, wars and civil conflicts.

Halo Children's Foundation

Hayes, UK

HALO became a registered charity with the Charity Commission in May 2016, three years after running the only bereavement support in the area. HALO run a monthly Expressive Arts and Play session for children and offer peer support for their families. We provide children a personal memory box and a cushion making service using loved ones clothing. HALO also offer a bereavement book library and a weekly drop in service. We pay for families to go on trips and create new memories together, as in many a case a parent has passed away leaving the family with a financial strain. We would like to create a workbook which can go in all the schools and allow children to express themselves with a therapeutic approach to their grief, as we do in most of the work we do. HALO is still to date run by volunteers. Fundraising and such grants and donations help keep our very important services running whilst we now work towards funding. HALO is one of the Hillingdon Mayors chosen charities of the year and with her support and additional funding we will open a bereavement/play centre next year, a place families can go to, to get the support they require.
