FiSH has been working within the communities of Barnes, Mortlake and East Sheen for the last 56 years. It combats loneliness and social isolation in older and vulnerable people, enabling them to live independent and dignified lives. We connect the community through a volunteer network which offers friendship, support and practical help. FiSH provides accessible transport via two minibuses for daily transport to Barnes Green Centre (run by AgeUK Richmond) and a variety of social activities such as shopping trips, outings and concerts. Via a daily Helpline, members can request transport to and from medical and social appointments, help with shopping and simple gardening and handyman tasks. A weekly Retro Cafe is run for those with memory loss. The FiSH Choir (which has an average age of 81) is run alongside FiSH Bridge which provides an opportunity to play social Bridge for those unable to attend a traditional club. Tuesday Talks are held weekly throughout the year and these cover a wide range of stimulating and interesting topics. On Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays, the FiSH Coffee Corner is run from Sheen Lane Centre and this provides a listening service for any member of the community, young or old, who needs company and a chat. FiSH also runs a befriending scheme which links an individual member with an individual volunteer who will then visit or phone on a regular basis. Volunteers are the lifeblood of FiSH and more are always needed.
