We are a local charity set up in memory of Christopher Cookie Coutts, who lost his two year battle against Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 19 in June 2013. Throughout his battle he suffered with poor veins due to the amount of chemotherapy treatments he had to undertake, his stress levels became unbearable which would cause issues with his blood pressure. It was exceedingly hard to watch the nursing staff try to find a vein never mind what Christopher was enduring in the process. It wasn't until we visited The Christie in Manchester that we came across a wonderful device called a vein finder. Chris thought that this was amazing and commented how he wished that he could have his own personal one to take along to appointments. On our return to the local hospital he asked why they didn't have one to be told that it was down to budgetary restraints. When we lost Christopher we made it our main aim as a charity to help provide these vital pieces of machinery into hospitals, and to date have funded 13 Accuvien 400 into local hospital wards. As word spreads throughout the hospital staff just how amazing these wee devises are, the more requests we get to provide them. At first, we concentrated on Chemotherapy wards but we have gone on to help High Dependency Units, Stem Cell Transplant Units and Children's Wards. The feed back from staff and patients has been fantastic and with your help we would like to donate more of these wonderful devices into other hospitals.

We support and empower lone parent, vulnerable and disadvantaged families through early intervention and partnership working. We facilitate positive change by being accessible, inclusive and flexible in our approach. At Fife Gingerbread it's never 'mission accomplished'. We will continue to support those who need help most and champion for change on their behalf. We pride ourselves in recognising specific needs and gaps in provision, and strive to influence policy makers both locally and nationally.

The Karate Initiative (SCIO) (known as Carnegie Dojo) is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Scottish Charity number: SC039618. The Karate Initiative was set up in October 2005 by then serving Police Officers (Gordon Williamson, Roy Bower and Ashley Walker) in conjunction with Fife Constabulary and was originally awarded charity Status in June 2008. The officers were all senior Karate students in their own accord and had been running clubs in the Fife area successfully for a number of years, but became increasingly concerned about the number of students who were stopping their training for no other reason than financial. In order to try to address this, the officers arranged with Fife Constabulary to gain access to free use of a large hall within Dunfermline Police Station where they could train students free of charge. Thus, The Karate Initiative was founded and ran successfully for a number of years, receiving funding to pay for Karate Suits and licences only from various groups including Fife Constabulary before applying for and obtaining its charity status in June 2008. Karate has always been an extremely expensive sport with costs involved in buying Karate suits, martial arts licenses, membership fees, training fees, grading fees etc. A typical student graded three times a year would expect to have to pay approximately £500 per year for the costs shown above. This puts the sport outwith the reach for the majority of people in Dunfermline. The officers felt that something had to be done to reach those children and their parents or carers in this category who wanted to try an exciting and demanding sport, hence the formation of the Karate Initiative. All our instructors, coaches and trustees provide their time and expertise free of charge. Our initiative is also provided as a diversionary project aimed at people from the ages of 7 – 70 years of age and caters for people from all walks of life in the west of Fife area. It is specifically aimed at families already under considerable stress and economic hardship who find it impossible to attend such classes due to monetary constraints. This initiative is also actively targeting the family unit and we are encouraging the parents/guardians/carers of the people attending to also participate which will encourage and cultivate bonding between those people. Due to the disciplinary element of such training these classes promote certain social skills, which can be missing from a large proportion of children in today’s society. The following priorities are being met through the Karate initiative: - • Reducing health inequalities by increasing participation in activities for children, young people and their families. • Enhancing the social and physical environments for the people of west Fife by diverting young people from offending/anti-social behaviour. • Reducing poverty by providing services and equipment free of charge to low-income and disadvantaged families.
