Middleton Central Foodbank

Manchester, UK

Middleton Central Foodbank provides emergency food parcels for people who find themselves in crisis. Every day in Middleton, people and families go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy, receiving an unexpected bill, being in work but on a low income, or difficulty due to having benefits altered or stopped. The foodbank is part of the national Trussell Trust foodbank network and the project is run by Inspire Middleton and supported by several local churches. We operate using a voucher system through a network of community based organisations. We are currently working with over 50+ local agencies who hold our foodbank vouchers and provide the simple, practical gift of food and support for the people they work with at the point of crisis. Each food parcel contains a mixture of items and enough food to last the individual or family supported for up to 3 days. Our food is non–perishable and it is donated to us by the public, businesses, and through local supermarket collections. To help clients become free from poverty, we also signpost them to support from the Lighthouse Project and other local organisations that may be able to resolve their underlying problem or issues.
