Naomi House and Jacksplace are hospices that support families from seven counties in southern England – Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Surrey, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight. Naomi House is a purpose built children’s hospice that provides a homely environment to children and young people with life-limiting conditions. We provide individualised specialist care and much needed respite for the whole family, enabling them to feel refreshed, rested and supported through the good days, difficult days and last days. Jacksplace is our hospice for 16 years and upwards and has been specifically designed to meet the needs of young adults. It is the only purpose built hospice for teenagers and young adults in our region, and gives life-limited young people the privacy and dignity they crave. Each year we need to raise £7million to run our whole service and deliver our plans. We receive less than 10% of our income from Government. The support we receive from individuals, groups, businesses and trusts means that we can provide care and support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, free of charge, when children, young adults and their families from our region, need it most. Brackenlea Care Home is a comfortable, tastefully furnished Edwardian house situated in the Hampshire village of Shawford. Shawford is 3 miles south of Winchester and 8 miles north of Southampton. It is not far from M3 junction and has a mainline station, bus route. A post office and hotel are within a few minutes walk. Recognizing that each individual resident has unique needs means we carefully asses these on a continuing basis. Special needs of residents include dementia, physical disabilities and dietary requirements etc. Brackenlea has 25 single, furnished rooms for men and women over the age of 65. All rooms have washing facilities, 13 rooms are situated on the ground floor and 12 on the first floor accessible by lift. At the south side of the house is the communal dining room, lounge and conservatory. There is easy access for both mobile and disabled residents to the large rear gardens and a patio seating area. Experienced trained staff are in attendance 24 hours a day, high quality food is provided which is mostly homemade. It is the aim at Brackenlea to sure that all residents lead a life that is dignified, private and undisturbed. All staff are therefore, made aware of residents’ needs as a primary concern. All residents’ privacy and dignity are respected during the giving of all personal care and they are addressed politely in their preferred manner. Staff listen to residents’ wishes and views and adhere to them whenever possible, they also respect residents’ views and rights of self-determination and making informed choices. Residents are encouraged to join in regular social activities, hobbies and leisure interests. There is regular entertainment in the home, games afternoons and therapy. A hairdresser and a chiropodist visit the home regularly. A religious service also takes place once a month.
