Support Our Homeless Welfare Service
London, UK
The Abbey Centre core work is to support local and often vulnerable residents, through the delivery of a cultural, social and physical programme of activities and services for all ages in south Westminster. The area of the Charity’s focus covers the five wards of St James, Churchill Gardens, Tachbrook, Vincent Square and Warwick. While the organisation has evolved over the years, in terms of its activities, services, members and venues in response to local needs; the key priority remains the same i.e. to serve the local neighbourhoods, and support local people and organisations to work together to improve their quality of life. As part of this work, we serve hot meals every Monday and Tuesday evening to dozens of homeless people in Westminster. We bring them in to our cafe, where we have health professionals who can put them in touch with essential services, and our friendly volunteers are happy to chat with them. To provide this service, we rely on a team of hard working volunteers and donations of surplus food from charities & shops. We also need to raise funds to cover other essentials such as tea & coffee, walkie talkies, hi-vis vests and ensuring we have a chef to cook every week.
