Our vision is a world in which people living with HIV are treated as equal citizens with respect, dignity and justice, are diagnosed early and receive the highest standards of care, and in which everyone knows how and is able to protect themselves and others from HIV infection. All our work is focussed on achieving five strategic goals: • Effective HIV prevention in order to halt the spread of HIV • Early diagnosis of HIV through ethical, accessible and appropriate testing • Equitable access to treatment, care and support for people living with HIV • Enhanced understanding of the facts about HIV and living with HIV in the UK • Eradication of HIV-related stigma and discrimination. We believe we make the most lasting and positive impact on the greatest number of lives by changing attitudes, behaviour, decisions and policies - and we seek to influence those whose actions have the biggest impact on the lives of people affected by HIV in the UK. We listen to people living with, and affected by, HIV and those who support them and we put the needs and rights of HIV positive people at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on being independent and evidence-based. We are committed to partnership working and we work in a collaborative and productive manner with a range of partner organisations to share experience and knowledge and make the greatest collective difference. Our independence remains vitally important to us and whilst we do receive some government funding, the vast majority of our income comes from public donations, corporate supporters, grant-making trusts and foundations and our own fundraising work. Choice in Hackney is a Disabled People User Led Organisation. This means we're run by disabled people, for disabled people in our local communities. We provide Advocacy, Independent Living Services and Voluntary Services to disabled people living in Hackney and Greater London. We aim to support disabled people from all communities and backgrounds to obtain the services they need to live independently, with dignity and to make choices about their lifestyles. Founded in 1985, The Junior League of London (JLL) is an organisation of women volunteers committed to promoting voluntary service, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. In 2008 the JLL adopted poverty and its effects as its current community focus. The JLL provides both volunteers and resources to support projects centred on its current community focus of eliminating poverty and its effects in London. The 400+ JLL members give over 20,000 volunteer hours to the London community each year, all with the goal of improving the lives of Londoners in need. Holiday Hampers, the JLL's signature community programme, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016. Each hamper is tailored to the needs and desires of the person or people who will be receiving it. For many of the recipients, this is the only gift they receive around the holidays so we work hard to make these special. Last year, for example, hampers for young mothers included: soup, dried pasta, canned fruit and vegetables, biscuits, tea, jam, chocolate, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, a book and a personalised children’s gift. Holiday Hampers are a year long project to provide hampers to those living in poverty whether they are a women escaping domestic violence, a family getting back on its feet, or an elderly person without any family left. We understand from our hamper distribution partners that our hampers are often the only gifts they receive, and they make a real difference in their lives, and our aim is to help these families and individuals feel the spirit of the holidays.
