Feed the Homeless Bristol

Bristol, UK

This page allows Volunteers within Feed the Homeless Bristol to provide information on their availability to "Walk" on a particular night that the charity operates. The charity operates around central Bristol feeding the homeless people who look to our support for a hot meal, produce, fruit, snacks and a hot or cold drink. It allows the walkers to see fellow volunteers and what equipment may be needed that evening. Once a desired amount of volunteers has been reached, you may be added to the "reserve list" and if willing, contacted should circumstances change and someone has to drop out. Please red the guideline at the following link to give a better understanding and also Like and share our facebook page which is updated weekly. https://www.feedthehomeless.org.uk/walkguidelines/ https://www.facebook.com/fthBRISTOL/

TRC Bristol Therapy Centre

Bristol, UK

The TRC Therapy Centre exists to facilitate the recovery for children and young people as they process trauma, support them as they piece their lives back together and help them find wholeness. The TRC Therapy Centre in Bath has been open for 4 years providing support to children and young people from the Bath area. However in November 2014 we expanded our services by starting a Bristol TRC Centre for one day a week for 15 children to receive 1:1 therapy. These sessions will be with a qualified play therapist, art therapist or counsellor. The Director of the Charity, Betsy de Thierry, pioneered the Bristol Children's Charity Partnership to forge positive relationships between seven charities with similar remits in Bristol. Furthermore between September 2014 and September 2015 we gave over 2,500 one to one therapy sessions for children and young people and ran over 540 parenting group sessions across our centres! We also had the Right Honourable Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State for International Development visit the TRC Bath Centre in September 2014 and described it as ‘gold standard provision’. Trauma is an overwhelming experience which hinders a child's safety and security. When these experiences are left unprocessed they affect their daily lives and lead to the child or young person having symptoms of trauma. Trauma Symptoms can include: anxiety, depression or low mood, nightmares, panic attacks, being withdrawn, angry outbursts, behaviour challenges, self harm, eating problems, day dreaming, problems at school with teachers and peers. If the trauma is not treated early these symptoms continue to affect the child's life and can lead to more serious problems in adulthood. Children and young people are referred to the TRC Therapy Centre having experienced a variety of traumas including abuse, witnessing domestic violence, phobias and bereavement. In 2014, approximately 100 clients benefited from the TRC and 100 client parents have been led through our ‘Parenting the Traumatised Child’ course. Clients come for an average of 12-20 weeks but some can come for much longer. We provide therapy sessions free of charge with a commitment to supporting each child for as long as they need. Testimonies from clients of TRC Therapy Centre, include: “I love coming here I wish I could come every day” (Child aged 8) “Me and my sister are getting on so much better since coming to the TRC…It’s really helped me put things in perspective” (Client aged 24) “I just need to talk to someone who’s not my mum. It really helps. I feel like you understand me.” (Client aged 15) “The TRC is the only place nothing bad happens. I feel safe here. You understand and help me. Before I came here I didn’t know what to do.” (Child aged 8) “I am less anxious.” (Child aged 8)
