Starbucks Touchwood Court

For everyone living with complex disabilities. For everyone who is deafblind. Sense is here to help people communicate and experience the world. Our TouchBase Pears centre, in Selly Oak, is a pioneering, multi-purpose project for the whole community in Birmingham and beyond – a place that brings people together in a welcoming environment where everyone can feel connected, included and part of the community. It has: Developed by Sense, TouchBase Pears also offers a range of arts, sports and wellbeing activities for children and adults who are deafblind, have sensory impairments or complex needs. TouchBase Pears operates as a social enterprise, with a focus on sustainability and creating value for the whole community.

At Acorns we provide a network of specialist palliative nursing care and support for babies, children and young people aged 0-18 who have life limiting or life threatening conditions and associated complex needs. Acorns relies on the community to fund the majority of its activities. A holistic service meets the needs of both the children and young people and their families, including the bereaved (subject to meeting the Acorns eligibility criteria). This includes short break provision; emergency and end of life care; therapeutic and psychosocial support; sibling services; and family support. Support is provided in each of our three hospices and the wider community, including in the family’s home.

In some rural areas of Thailand, it is hard for children to get a good education. As education is so crucial, it is always useful for these communities to receive vital resources which they cannot access or afford. A Partner of ten years from our local Starbucks store is going back to Thailand, her home country, in 2019. We are fundraising to help children in these derilict mountain areas meet their educational needs. We will use the funds we raise to buy books, stationary and other educational essentials to take to these children in the mountains to help improve their lives.
