St. Michael’s Hospice is an adult hospice, supporting people across North Hampshire who have a life-limiting illness, are facing the end of life or experiencing bereavement. Our dedicated team of nurses, doctors, and therapists deliver free, high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care and support to patients, their families and carers. We offer a range of services that help patients, and their families focus on living rather than dying. We receive only 22% statutory funding and so need to raise £14,500 per day to continue providing vital care to the North Hampshire community. For 35 years Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice has provided Specialist Palliative Care to adult patients and their families affected by a terminal illness (such as cancer, heart, lung or neurological disease) in West Surrey and North East Hampshire serving 550,000 residents. Every day we support over 140 patients and their families in their own homes, in the community and at the Hospice (on our In-Patient Unit, in Day Hospice, at out-patient appointments and through Patient & Family Support). We have a range of free services to ensure that people affected by a terminal illness (such as cancer, heart, lung or neurological disease) can make the most of their lives…because every day is precious. This expresses the reason we are here and why we do what we do. It captures the sentiment of patients, carers, families and friends…and the wider community. It is sensitive to the fact we may be talking days, or weeks, or years. Whatever time is left, we’re here…because every day is precious. The NHS/Government covers less than 15% of the Hospice’s costs. This means we have to raise over 85p in every pound the Hospice needs, so we rely heavily on the support and generosity of our local community. All our services are free of charge to our patients and their families, but we need to raise over £15,000 a day to offer such an exceptional standard of clinical care and support.
