Yellow Submarine - Bowling for Balls
Oxford, UK
Yellow Submarine is an award-winning Oxfordshire charity that believes people with learning disabilities and autism deserve to live life to the full. We tackle the problem that many people with learning disabilities leave school with limited life skills and as a result poor life chances. This often leads to isolation and being marginalised. Our projects start working with young people in community settings from the age of 11 onwards, to build their social skills, confidence, independence and ultimately their employability. At the same time we are supporting families and carers with respite. Monday & Wednesday Night Clubs are social group for adults aged between 18-30 years old with a mild to moderate learning disability and/or autism. Aside from having fun, the aim of these clubs is to support young adults in transition build independent social lives. Through peer based learning, it is a stepping stone to accessing mainstream groups. Hollywood Bowl has pledged to help Yellow Submarine raise £5,000 throughout 2017 to fund two evening balls for our adult social groups. With some fine food, awesome music and even better company they will be the biggest social events in Yellow Submarine’s calendar!
