Family days out are opportunities to have fun and share meaningful experiences. From adventuring to the zoo, exploring the local park or travelling to the beach, our days out are about relaxing, meeting new people and enjoying each other's company. Having a child with a disability or medical condition can feel isolating. Going out as a family brings challenges and sometimes feels like hard work. Perhaps your child may be unable to do the things other children can do, or it's difficult to get from place to place. All too often, families may decide to stay home rather than struggling out. It can feel tempting to just head out individually. But that's not what being a family is about! Everyone at Daytrippers knows what that’s like - especially when you have other children to think about. We're all carers or parents of children with learning difficulties and special needs and we're here to make sure whole families can spend relaxing and memorable activities together. Our days out make sure families remember the school holidays as a time of happiness, laughter and of course fun! All the buses we use have tail lifts, so even permanent wheelchair users can get on. To keep everyone safe, we photograph our families as they get on the bus in case any of the children get lost. After all, a photo is easier to see than to try and describe a child. Every member of the family wears a small green wristband with details of who to contact in case of an emergency. Over 150 families regularly come along for our day trips! They're all wonderfully different and enjoy our Daytrippers adventures in their own way. When we get to where we're going, some people stick together as a family, strengthening their relationships by sharing time in a new environment. Some of our families have made friends and explore in little groups, offering each other mutual support. Occasionally, members of our outdoor education team come along to help look after the children and give parents that extra feeling of reassurance.
