We are a poverty alleviation and community empowerment nonprofit promoting equitable access to food, housing, healthcare, education, and an adequate standard of living for individuals and families. We work with various segments of the community including homeless people, refugees, rough sleepers, and individuals and families living in extreme poverty. Refuge Network runs a soup kitchen at Charing Cross. We also operate several outreach programmes providing food and survival packs in various locations, including Victoria, Leicester Square, Brixton, Camden, Clapham, London Bridge, Waterloo, and Goodge Street. We provide food, clothing, tents, sleeping bags, phones, survival kits, other material supplies, and advice to the homeless, refugees, struggling individuals, and families living in poverty. Due to the cost of living crisis, our service is receiving unprecedented requests for assistance. We are seeing more suffering on the streets and can feel the urgency of the situation. A visitor to our soup kitchen told us he was finding it difficult to remain on his feet due to hunger. It was heartbreaking seeing him sitting dejectedly by the streets complaining he had no strength to move on. Around the same period, our team members at Southwark spent time consoling an injured homeless woman on a wheelchair who was weeping profusely by the roadside due to hunger and homelessness. While Refuge Network has made great strides in providing support to thousands of homeless people and rough sleepers, the situation with many service users remains desperate. We are expanding services to cater for more individuals and families in underserved areas, so we urgently need food, clothing, toiletries, blankets, bags, household goods, and anything you can give to support the cause. We are bridging the gap between food waste and food poverty locally. We support local Foodbanks, charities and community groups - helping them to feed people that need it most. we have established ourselves to relieve people in Surrey, West London and the local areas who are in need, by reason of their age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or social circumstances; particularly but not exclusively by the provision of surplus food and other essential items to individuals, Foodbanks and other charitable organisations. Surplus to Supper is supporting our local foodbanks and charities with surplus food, operational help and fundraising. Our aim is to benefit all foodbanks, organisations and charities throughout the borough and the county. We also operate as a catering kitchen; with a free nutritious and culturally relevant meal delivery service as well as the bulk catering for outside organisations/ companies providing food for parties, events, lunches and dinners as well as the regular meals at the Sunbury Cricket Club. It is vital that we explore other opportunities for the charity and other uses for the surplus food. Every time you buy a meal from our Surplus to Supper range, you provide a free meal to a person or family in the area Identified through our partnerships with Buy One Feed One Free. This encourages the injustice of Perfectly good food going to landfill while supporting local communities out of poverty. Food units! The Mildmay community Centre is committed to serving the needs of the local community through engagement, participation and partnerships. We are based in London in the borough of Islington. We provide many activities and projects that support those experiencing isolation and poverty as well as working in partnership with local social enterprises and charitable organisations . We are currently striving to set up new projects that our community are asking for : such as a gardening growers project, a food bank, a stay and play and community cafe. Like all charities we are always on the look out for help, donations, volunteers and funding for projects. Due to the Covid 19 crisis we were closed to the public, but continued serving our community hot cooked vegan meals on a Thursday and supermarket food surplus on a Friday. Our volunteers deliver food to the door for the most vulnerable in our community. All donations are gratefully received. We are now re open for our local community to come back and get involved in our various services which include continuation of our food and hygiene bank and co op, After school club, community gardening club, coffee and crafts morning, Golden oldies bingo club, community kitchen and various other projects and services which support our local community. We are particularly focussed on the more vulnerable and isolated people in our community and those experiencing poverty and deprivation.
