Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice Inpatient Unit Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice is the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Peterborough and the surrounding area and provides expert palliative care and support for people who are living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families. We are also the only unit with a multi-disciplinary team which includes doctors, nurses, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, complementary therapy, bereavement counsellors, and psychological and spiritual support Our 20-bed hospice is surrounded by beautiful, tranquil countryside which complements the specialist care and support we give to those with life-limiting conditions and their families. Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice at Home In addition to our inpatient unit, our day service helps people living with long term conditions to avoid unnecessary trips to hospital, as well as offering social opportunities alongside others experiencing similar circumstances. We also offer a Hospice at Home service for people in the local community who prefer to receive palliative care at home. Our expert team includes doctors, nurses, care assistants, physiotherapists, occupational and complementary therapists, social workers and bereavement support workers. They all work seamlessly together to support people through the most difficult times of their lives. Sue Ryder Regional Grief Kind Space Grief Kind Spaces - a safe, informal and supportive place Our Grief Kind Spaces are weekly, in-person drop-in sessions held in the local community and run by trained volunteers. The sessions provide a safe, informal and supportive place for people to come together and share their experiences of grief, helping attendees to feel heard and less alone. The sessions are welcoming, inclusive and open to anyone who is over 18 and has experienced a bereavement, whether you want to attend regularly to connect with others in similar situations or just drop in for a quick chat. The spaces are volunteer-led, with volunteers receiving training and guidance to help attendees connect with each other and share their experiences of grief through peer-to-peer support. Whether somebody is dealing with a terminal illness or the loss of a loved one, we’re there when it matters. Sue Ryder staff and volunteers provide people with the compassion and expert care they need, to help them live the best life they can. We give people the care they need towards and at the end of their life, supporting them to live as well as possible with their illness by adding life to their days. We also help their families and carers to cope practically and emotionally. When our patients reach the end of their journey, we help them to die with dignity and with as little suffering as possible and we support their families through the process of bereavement. We offer care via our 14 bed inpatient unit, home care through our Community Team and outpatient services through our Wellbeing Centre. We have to raise approximately £2.6 million each year from voluntary sources to ensure these services can be delivered free at the point of care. Our nurses care for the patients both in the hospice and in their own homes. We offer care and support to patients based on their individual choices and needs. Many of our community patients also benefit from our Wellbeing Centre which include: gentle exercise, meditation and breathing classes, a gardening club, art and other creative activities, counselling, welfare advice, complementary therapies and spiritual care. For the duration of the patient’s illness, our hospice becomes an extension of the family. We are the people the patient and family members turn to when they have questions or need reassurance. The hospice supports nearly 700 patients and their families each year. Once a patient dies, our care does not stop. We offer bereavement counselling and remembrance services to the family members. Many people also want to stay in contact with the hospice through volunteering and fundraising for us.

Tonnes of fresh food are thrown away every day by supermarket across the UK. Children go to school hungry every morning, mothers skip meals to feed their family, elderly people and those with mental illness are under nourished. Gratitude collects fresh, nutritious food that cannot be sold by supermarkets and redistributes this to families and individuals in need in the local area. Our foodbank is open 7 days a week. We also collect non-food items and redistribute the surplus to charities, shelters and those who are in need in the community. We have now been serving for five years and have been helping feed an average of 3500 people weekly.
