Local Energy Action Plan (LEAP - SCIO Charity No SC044019) will support KLAS Care Community Interest Company (CIC) through this project by transforming the dilapidated East Fulton Primary School Janitors House into a modern eco-friendly space through installing energy efficiency and renewable energy measures. East Fulton Primary School Janitors House is a one story pitched roof building (77m2 footprint) currently unused and neglected. It currently has no heating or lighting (boiler and lighting having been previously removed) and only minimal loft insulation. LEAP will thoroughly insulate the building: 300mm loft Insulation, 100mm kingspan internal wall insulation, breathable membrane bagged underfloor insulation together with replacing the water damaged flooring throughout, LED striplights throughout, new high efficiency gas combination boiler with new radiators, new fully lagged pipework and a renewable energy waste water heat recovery system. Our experienced LEAP project team will project manage all aspects of the work alongside KLAS Care management. Community volunteers are already engaged and will help with work such as lifting flooring, removing gyproc wall panels and installing insulation, building skills in the community and community ownership of the building. KLAS Care are a social enterprise out of school care company with all profits reinvested to benefit local children and families using the services provided. All contracts in all services are ‘pay as you go’ which is a unique selling point and supportive of local community needs, allowing low income parents to maintain employment. The 5 volunteer workers, 4 paid workers and 6 unpaid Board of Directors support 35 families which equates to 53 children all using our out of school care. This anchor business also supports new income streams of play scheme and crèche of which 15 children and 16 families benefit. The age range of the children in creche are 6 weeks to pre-school 4 years and out of school care is primary school age 4-12 years. KLAS Care currently rent a room in East Fulton Primary School at a cost. By having our own place we will be able to offer more volunteering opportunities as we can only offer these in out of school care at the moment due to the restrictions in the classroom availability. KLAS Care have secured funding from social enterprise funders Firstport to Level 2 (the only social enterprise in Renfrewshire to do so), Renfrewshire Council Social Development and Just Enterprise Lift up. All funding is targeted to increase capacity and build on our out of school care by introducing Play schemes and crèche facilities to have a massive social impact for the Linwood area. Parents of the children that currently use KLAS Care services and extended family and community have offered in kind support; plumbing, roofing, painting, decorating, gardening, drain clearing, and maintenance work. LEAP and KLAS Care have a huge amount of trust and respect in our community.

We are part of solar schools (www.solarschools.org.uk/assr) . We are aiming to raise over £17000 to put solar panels on the roof of the school. We are doing this by crowdfundning and we have already raised over £7000 through various fundraising activities. If we are able to put the full size rig on the roof by raising the full amount of money we will save over £2500 per annum in electricity savings, in exporting energy back to the grid and in the feed in tarrif. In a time of increasing energy costs, and decreasing school budgets this is a great way to make sure that our children will have more money spent on them. It also serves as an example of what can be done with solar power and reduces the school's carbon footprint. Our school is a small school, we can cater for up to 120 children, at present there are 65 children in the school. Our oldest building celebrated its 150th birthday last year, It was designed by the great architect Philip Webb, it is listed and it is fitting that we should celebrate the past by securing the future. We are a Church of England school but we do not require anyone to attend church in order to come to our school, we are there to serve anyone from the local community. We have a lovely school building especially the oldest part, and the newer part of the school has an extensive flat roof which faces South. The solar panels will sit on that roof, they will be unobtrusive. The rig will be placed on the school roof this summer and will be ready to generate and save electricity.

We have to relocate Spelthorne Gymnastics from its existing facility in Ashford to allow for a housing development. We are joining with the Bishop Wand School in Sunbury and are building a state of the art gymnastics facility that will also cater for several additional sports. The aim is to complete the project in December 2016 and then relocate Spelthorne Gymnastics so that it can develop and increase its membership and improve the quality of life for all the members (Gym Club and School) using the facility in the future.
