Heineken to help reconnect Tadcaster after recent floods

8 January 2016
Heineken's Tadcaster brewery, the traditional home of John Smith’s ale, will donate £50,000 to support the local community.

In response to the difficulties faced by people after the collapse of the ancient Tadcaster Bridge over the River Wharfe, Heineken has committed £25,000 to transport projects that reconnect the town. The company will be working with local stakeholders in the coming days to identify the transport support most needed.

An additional community fund of £25,000 will also be set up, donating grants to local community groups and projects affected by the floods. Heineken has partnered with Neighbourly.com to launch the grant fund which will be open to applications in February.

Brewery Manager, David Ginley said: “There’s a great sense of community as people pull together to support their neighbours. The collapse of the bridge in Tadcaster has left the town divided, so transport infrastructure is an obvious priority. As a local employer we want to play our part in helping reconnect the town. We’re talking to people locally to understand the most pressing issues and have been clear that we stand ready to support transport and community projects in Tadcaster with both manpower and funds.”

Nigel Adams MP commented: "Heineken are an important employer in the town and it's fantastic to see them step up with this significant funding. I will be working with them over the coming weeks to identify projects that can make a real difference to the local community."

David Kerfoot, Deputy Chairman of the York, North Yorkshire & East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership said: “We have been incredibly impressed with how the people and businesses in Tadcaster have pulled together in this challenging time. We welcome this investment from Heineken which demonstrates their commitment to supporting the local people and businesses in the town. Whilst we are under no illusion around the challenges facing business from the bridge collapsing, we are confident with the support and spirit demonstrated the town will bounce back stronger than ever.”
