The story so far...

We've helped to get over 690 tonnes of surplus food to people in need across the UK - that's around 975,000 meals.

Don’t let it go to waste

Neighbourly food helps businesses and charities make the best possible use of surplus food. It’s designed to fix the problem of redistributing excess food locally, especially fresh food, by connecting businesses that have surplus with projects that feed those in need. Businesses can create donations whenever there is food going spare and charities can set up alerts to find out what’s available and arrange collection.

Featured Project

Middle Park Community Centre, London

This community centre in Eltham, London provides a nutritious breakfast to over 60 children to help set them up for their school day. The centre also provides a range of activities for older people, including a community café serving hot food four days a week. This project receives regular donations of surplus food from M&S Eltham.

Featured Company

Since October 2015 M&S have been distributing their food surplus via Neighbourly - connecting every store with a local charity to maximise the amount of food that can be redistributed. So far, they've donated over 680 tonnes to 550 UK charities.

Click on the register button above and create a neighbourly account. Then create a project page, edit it to request food donations and upload a copy of a suitable food hygiene certificate. Neighbourly will attempt to match you with a local participating retailer, subject to availability.
This ensures that food is being handled and redistributed safely as many of the items will be fresh. Certificates should be uploaded to your project page.
Neighbourly technology is helping to divert thousands of tonnes of edible food away from waste and into the hands of those who need it. We also connect causes with financial donations and volunteer time.
Certificates are easy to obtain and don’t take long to complete. Your local council can advise on the types of courses available or you can have a look at online courses – search for ‘Food hygiene certificate level 2’.
If your business has surplus edible food, we’d love to talk to you about redistribution. Get in touch via food@neighbourly.com.
